All athletes will belay each other. If they do not have prior knowledge of how to belay they will be taught in their first few sessions. The goal of teaching belaying is to get them gym certified.
*Breakfast Climb:* **Athletes will choose a climb that is super easy for them. Something they can get to the top of without any pump. They will start on this climb to acclimate their muscles for the next exercise.
Route-reading: Athletes will pretend they are doing the climb while they are still on the ground. They will act out each move as if they are on the wall. You can enhance this exercise by giving athletes a piece of paper to write out how they are going to do the climb.
Projecting: Athletes will choose a climb just outside of their grade range of right within it. They will put into words how they are going to do the climb and attempt it. Try to get the athlete to fall on hard moves rather than taking.
Red Light Green Light: Athletes will climb a route that is somewhat hard for them. The belayer will find 3 rests throughout the climb. Once the climber reaches the spots they will yell “Red Light!” Once they think the climber is well rested they will yell “Green Light!”
*Free Climb: *TCC is a very social climbing group. They will be able to spend 20 minutes simply hanging out and climbing with friends and getting help from coaches if needed.
